There’s a video going around of a Christian Pastor who is recalling a story where he punched one of his youth “as hard as he could,” just laid him out. If you haven’t seen the video just wait a few minutes, your atheist friends will be sending it to you soon.
Is it just me or is the Christian religion under more and more scrutiny? Any situation that can be exploited to embarrass people who identify as Christian (like the man in the video) become fodder to show how Christianity is fundamentally flawed – violent at its core.
The problem is, anyone with a Bible can find more stories like this preserved by our Spiritual Ancestors for everyone to read – much to the embarrassment of Christians of any stripe.
So what do we do? Do we deny these accusations? Do we run away from this? Disidentify with the name “Christian”? Or is there a way to engage in this that allows us to identify with a spiritual tradition called Christian, but still deny violence and all of the other negative traits we see in the stories from the Bible?
