Speaker: Jeff Jarvis & Tom Morris

I remember telling Cathy “don’t worry, I know what I’m doing”. I had begun buying and selling stocks on the side – especially the hot tech stocks of the early 2000’s. At the time so many tech stocks were sky-rocketing and the rewards of buying in early were just too hard to resist. Within only a few months I had taken a large chunk of our savings and dumped it into what I heard, or read and believed to be “rising stars”. Within a short time, the tech bubble popped and I was left having to have one of the most painful conversations I’ve ever had with Cathy. I had to tell her that I had gambled and lost a large chunk of our retirement savings.

We’ve all ended up in trouble at some point. Whether self-inflicted or not, likely we all know what it’s like to hope for – to need – to crave a compassionate response from someone. Perhaps you’ve been the one in the position of contemplating whether to offer compassion or not. Both positions can be painful and incredibly complex. Perhaps this is why Jesus talked so much about compassion. We’re going to talk about it this Sunday.
