Jesus was raised in a small village of 200 under the dominance of Rome. Freedom from oppression, hope for a better way, a life expectancy of more than 30, all things that pervaded the thought life of the peasant class.
So Jesus proclaims a new kingdom, and new way, a new King and his message found favor and traction among the people of his time. In the last 150 years, we as western thinkers, have ripped this out of context and made the Kingdom of God into all kinds of personal conveniences and future possibilities.
Let’s bring heaven back to earth in the here and now.
