At Friends Church we have two programs for youth, one for preteens ages 1 – Grade 5 called Kids@Friends and one for teens in Grade 6-12 called Switch.
You think you are the only one who doesn’t fit traditional church, teens probably more than ever don’t fit traditional church. With issues like how to grow up in social media, sexuality, ethics and everything in between, teens are in a tough world.
But we can help them navigate their world, connect to their unique spirituality, and start making their world a little better – something we call taking water.
This is a program designed specifically for teens in grades 6-12. It happens every second week on sunday at the same time as the adult meeting time (they just have slurpees, donuts and ice cream instead of coffee <Grin>), and usually they have an activity after they get together (often from 1-3pm in the afternoon).
Things like putting on a BBQ for the homeless in Calgary, Amazing Race, and even a week in mexico helping locals build houses for people who have never experienced the safety of their own home…
all kids in Grade 6 – 12 are welcome
You might have grown up with a complex religious experience, or maybe no experience. But the world of spirituality is changing and our kids are going to be the first generation who are raised in this new reality.
Where they learn to be honest about their faith, and still engage in the modern world.
They will make their faith practical – meaning it’s not about holding a certain set a beliefs, but how our beliefs shape and mould our lives.
This program creates age appropriate training in learning one’s unique spirituality and how it lives in our actions.
Since kids don’t want to sit through a lecture, we do it through play, and activities, and crafts and video. It’s a lot of fun, in which we have lessons about how to find, and live out, their unique spirituality.
All kids aged 1 – grade 5 are welcome
How it works.
This happens at the same time as our program for the adults (10:30am) just down the stairs. You will be asked to sign your kids into a secure location and tell the adult team all their health concerns. If there is a problem with your child that our team can’t handle, we will simply text you and ask you to come downstairs and give us a hand. It’s a great system.
How can I be involved in fellowship. I am lonely and would love to meet good people.
Of course! Everyone is welcome. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
What on earth died ages 1 – grade 5 mean? Do you mean for grade 1 – 5?
I know, a weird way to say it but the program starts with children who are one years old and the oldest class takes kids who are up to grade 5. Kids in grade six graduate there kids program and go to Switch until grade 12.
