I was walking down the street looking in the windows of stores recently when I realized that they are all telling me that if I buy their stuff, if I consume their whatever, I’ll be happy. Because the point of life is being happy right? And it comes from consumption… or does it?

Our spirituality seems to explore the world above (or below) our regular life, informing our decisions and actions from a purpose that is different than just consumption.

• So how do we respond to the stories our culture has told us about how to be happy?

This week we are going to explore the stories of Martin Luther King, Frida Kahlo, Ghandi, Princess Diana and Jesus as they relate to the songs

• Bittersweet Symphony by the Verve and recently covered by Riverdale
• and Feel it Still (I’m a Rebel Just for Kicks) by Portugal the Man and recently covered by Dunez

Because I think these songs are tying into a deeper wisdom that our spirituality is calling out for. That feels right to us. But culture doesn’t really understand. Are we really “a million different people from one day to the next”?
