I started going to the gym, and not just any gym, what I call the Big Boy Gym. Vince, the skinny little runner, is going to the Big Boy Gym!?! Talk about feeling out of place. You might not have had that feeling at the gym, but we’ve all felt that, right. “We don’t fit here. They are going to find us out.”
And I think that many of us feel that when we walk through the doors of a church. “If you only knew what I’ve done, you wouldn’t welcome me. If you only know who I am, you would kick me out.”
There’s a story from our spiritual ancestors that talks about this feeling – not fitting here. But Jesus, in the worst wingman move ever, changes the conversation in a way that is both honest and full of hope. It’s a great story that I think we all need to hear.
