I remember the moment when I realized that I didn’t fit church anymore. I was sitting in Bible School and I asked a simple question – or at least what I thought was simple. Only to find out that that wasn’t a question we were supposed to ask, allowed to ask. Suddenly, I was the misfit.

Do you remember the moment when you realized you didn’t fit church? Or maybe when you realized that church didn’t fit you? Or maybe someone you loved didn’t fit. Remember that feeling of being a misfit?

At Friends Church, we are a community of misfits. Some with church background, some with none. Some doing the work of deconstructing a religion they were given, some coming back from throwing it all away. And some of us just loved the world around us regardless of what religion told us.

But this is Home for us. Home for our spiritual journey. Home for the misfits. It’s a beautiful thing isn’t it? But there are some unique challenges that come with being a community of misfits, that if we don’t learn about, we risk having that feeling of home go away.
