I went to Guatemala in January of 2013. It was a life altering experience.  Two of the things that I carry with me every day since then, are the way I pray, and my relationship with my sponsor child. The way the people in Rio Azul pray was extremely personal and intimate with God. They pray together, but each saying their own prayer outloud. It’s noisy and confusing and very surreal. I realized when I was listening to them how out of touch my prayers had become. Although I couldn’t understand what they were saying I could truly feel the intimate relationship each of them had with God. I remember and strive for that intimacy every time I pray now.guat.2

The second was meeting my sponsor girl. She is a stunning girl both inside and out and I feel privileged and blessed to be a part of her life and have her a part of mine. When we write letters and share photos with each other with a true sense of familiarity. I really consider her a part of my family and would love to meet her again.

The incredible sense of community and pride and hard work that you see in Rio Azul and all the people there is truly inspiring. As much as we can provide funds and physical resources to Rio Azul, they can provide us with so much more. We can learn lessons of true family, community and faith.
