I’m guessing many will see the topic of this Sunday’s gym session and think to themselves, “Here we go…here comes the porn lecture!” and rightfully so, I suppose. Over 20 years ago, I spoke for the first time about my personal experience with porn along with some of the consequences it had on my marriage. My advice back then and all along has been pretty black and white…just steer clear.
In the past 20 years though, a lot has changed. Not only has the emergence of high speed internet and smart phones made porn accessible to anyone of almost any age, the social stigma porn once carried in our society has largely evaporated. Now, one doesn’t have to look far to even find stories of the positive impact some porn has had or is having in the sex lives of individuals and couples. This isn’t true for everyone, though. New scientific research is emerging about it’s effects on the human brain and sexual function, warning of danger.

All this to say, it’s a complex issue, but one that isn’t going away.

This Sunday, I’m going to weigh in again and do my best to explore porn through a number of lenses that I think need to be considered before arriving at an educated opinion. I don’t expect everyone to hold the same position after it’s done – but I am hoping the discussion will lead to healthier sexual experience both short and long term.
