Speaker: Jeff Jarvis

With surprising regularity I will hear stories of people who, while listening to music, have experienced something extraordinary. Some will tell me how they were overcome with emotion. Others have described a warmth or a peace that came over them as they listened to a song – that was nothing short of “divine”. Others described how – when listening to certain music – they began to think about and process things that they hadn’t thought about for years. Hurts, disappointments, life patterns that they hadn’t even realized. All while listening to music.

Have you ever had this happen to you? Have you ever been impacted by music in a deep way?

Moments like these can be, what we call, “Thin Places”. Where it seems the membrane between God’s world and our world becomes so thin that we can experience what may be going on around us in the spiritual dimension. Music has done that for so many over thousands of years. This weekend we’ll explore the spiritual benefits of a great playlist.

A bunch of music was played or performed throughout this message. Here is a list of songs and their artists that were used:

Cry Out to Jesus by Casting Crowns
The Scientist by Coldplay
How Great is Our God by Chris Tomlin
Tornado by Jonsi
In Flames by Jester Script Transfigured
Everybody Hurts by R.E.M
Praise in the Storm by Casting Crowns
