Have you ever noticed how much the stories we hold shape the way we see the world -how we interact with it, and even how we love the people in it? We call this the Undercurrent.

I was talking with someone recently where this hit home for me. They said, “We’re all the same.” Everyone! Regardless of race, gender, sex, or ethnicity. That’s a story they hold, that’s an Undercurrent in their lives. And it made me wonder: how does that story shape the way they love people who are different from them? How does it affect the way they Take Water to communities unlike their own? Does that story leave room to learn from differences - or does everything need to conform to that story or its rejected?

It’s a simple example, but it reveals something important: the stories we carry matter. They quietly shape how we see, how we hope and how we show up in the world. It influences who and how we love the people around us.

Our spiritual ancestors understood this. They gave us questions, not answers, to help us examine the stories we hold and the impact those stories have on our lives, our spiritual journeys, and the ways we Take Water to the world around us.

In this series, we’ll use these ancient questions to explore the stories we live by - and to bravely challenge them.

This is foundational work for anyone on a spiritual journey: becoming aware of the stories shaping us, and deciding whether they are helping us be who we want to be in this world.

Welcome to the exploration of our Undercurrents
