15 Years Strong: Community, Care, and a Cleaner Bow River
There’s something special about a tradition that keeps showing up—and this year marked our 15th annual River Pathway Cleanup along the beautiful Bow River.
From beneath the Crowchild Trail Bridge to 14 Street NW Bridge, our Friends Church community once again came together with gloves on, bags in hand, and a shared purpose—to care for a space that gives so much to our city.
What stood out most this year wasn’t just what we picked up—it was what we didn’t.
Year after year, we’ve seen a noticeable decline in litter along our adopted stretch of the Bow River Pathway. That’s not by accident. It’s the result of consistency, community ownership, and a whole lot of people choosing to make a difference, one small act at a time.
But beyond the cleanup, something even more meaningful continues to grow.
This day has become about connection. Conversations while walking the pathway. Laughter over the more “interesting” items found along the way. New faces joining in and quickly feeling like part of something bigger. It’s a reminder that when we Take Water together, we build something stronger than just a cleaner city—we build community.
To everyone who came out: thank you. Your willingness to show up, get a little dirty, and give your time speaks volumes. You are part of a 15-year legacy of care, and it shows.
Calgary is better because of it.
As we like to say at Friends Church:
Thanks for “taking water to your world.” 💧
