Just over a year ago, Will Smith was sitting in the audience at the Emmy Awards when Chris Rock, a comedian, made a comment about his wife. Smith walked up on stage and slapped Rock in the face. It was a poor reaction that had swift and negative consequences for Will Smith. In fact, it’s come to define him in the eyes of many.

Every day mistakes are made. It’s part of life. We forget things, we allow our emotions to get the best of us, we make poor decisions that hurt ourselves and others. Some mistakes can have lasting consequences that serve as a continual reminder of what we’re capable of in weak or unguarded moments. They can subtly begin to define - even in our own minds.

Finding a way to move on from mistakes is a quest that humanity has been on from the very beginning. In fact, our spiritual ancestor’s developed a ritual to help them push the reset button and to start fresh. It’s a ritual that Friends Church has embraced and that we revisit each Easter.
