I had a moment, giving someone a tour of the temple that was fascinating. They walked into the sanctuary with me and I pointed out all the beautiful works of art on the ceiling and the person’s jaw was almost on the floor. They were struck by the beauty of the space and in reverence they said

“Holy sh$t this place is beautiful”

Then they realized what they said, their eyes went wide, their hand slapped over their mouth, trying to stop anything else from coming out. Then they said something to me that I found fascinating

“You don’t think God heard that do you?”

They were serious. What a fascinating statement that says a lot about how they conceive of God.

God is something that can leave the building – is that how you have conceived of God? God left the building? God didn’t see that? God isn’t here right now? And where did we get this conception of God? and more importantly:
How this conception of God might be creating feelings of disconnection and abandonment
This conception of God might be reinforcing a core message of shame that doesn’t need to be there
and more importantly, what other options do we have?

Join us as we explore another conception of God, that goes to places we use the words divine and spirituality to describe.
