Tiger Woods changed golf. His unmatched talent drew more eyes to him and his sport than any other golfer ever, he upped the television audience to record levels. People had to watch. And he won, a lot. Tiger holds the record for most consecutive weeks at number one, 281 weeks, from June 12, 2005 to October 30, 2010! Plus, he was making cultural as well as sport history. Winning the Masters at Augusta National, where African-Americans hadn’t been allowed to play until 1975, put him in a special place.
He was a hero to many. And then his life fell apart amid scandal and his golf game has never recovered; it may never recover.
Is Tiger no longer considered a hero? The heroes we read about in the Bible also weren’t perfect, but I believe there’s an important lesson we can learn from their mistakes. Join us at the Spiritual Gym this Sunday for a closer look at what it takes to be a hero in 2017.
