took a shower this morning.

In fact, I’m guessing that you probably did too.

I woke up, a little sleepy, and drowsily made my way across the floor. I wanted nothing more than a cup of green tea and the feel of hot water on my face. The soft carpet woke up my feet as I made my way toward the bathroom.

I got up, turned on the faucet, and hot water came gushing out. I adjusted the temperature until it was perfect, not too hot, not too cold, and stepped in.

Heaven.

The water that came out of the tap was clean, and clear. Sterilized for my drinking pleasure. Exactly what the inside of my body needed to keep it healthy. Health Canada has programmed me to ensure that I drink 2 litres of it every single day. And dutifully, I comply.

I stood there, in the shower, watching the water come out of my stainless steel-looking, environmentally-conscious, water-saving, back massage giving, and ridiculously over-priced shower head.

And then I watched as litre after litre of the clear liquid flowed down the drain. I live in an apartment building, so I could literally have as much hot water as I wanted. It has become really easy to take it for granted. It just keeps flowing and flowing and flowing….

One in nine people on this planet lacks access to clean, safe, drinking water. The water that forms the basis for life, for growth, for health.

My 5 minute shower used roughly 35 litres of purified water. That’s enough water to nourish the bodies of 17 people – every single day!

Crazy.

Tomorrow morning our team will be heading to Guatemala. To a village that doesn’t take one sip of their clean water for granted.

My prayer is that we will learn as much from them, as they hope to learn from us.

¡Hasta mañana!
