**Day 2 (Monday): Concrete Day – And We Survived!**

Day 2 is officially in the books, and we made it through Concrete Day!

We arrived at the worksite bright and early at 8 am and were introduced to Cenaida, an incredible woman who, along with her husband, relocated to this piece of land on the outskirts of Tijuana just three months ago. Their dream is to build a better life here. They’ve already constructed a small one-bedroom shack, measuring about 10’x11’, with no electricity or windows – a humble beginning, but a place filled with hope.

We wasted no time and quickly got to work. The team set to preparing the site, leveling the ground, and constructing the concrete forms. After that, the real challenge began: mixing concrete. It was estimated that we would need between 225 and 250 wheelbarrows of gravel, sand, and cement, all mixed by hand, to create the foundation slab for the new home. And, of course, we did all this under the hot Tijuana sun, with temperatures soaring around 30°C (86°F).

Fortunately, our portable shower bags, which had been soaking in the sun all day, proved to be a lifesaver. After a hard day’s work, everyone appreciated the refreshing showers.

It’s been an exhausting day, but spirits are high. The team’s dedication and resilience are truly inspiring, and our commitment to "Take Water" – a phrase that represents our mission to bring positive change – is stronger than ever. Tonight, everyone will sleep soundly, knowing that we made significant progress toward building a better future for Cenaida and her family. We are beyond grateful for such an amazing, hard-working team.

Great updates and photos. You’re all so inspiring! My fave photo today is the redheaded young woman flexing her biceps and accomplishments.
