Day two of building was a big one! What started as a bare cement pad at the beginning of the day became an almost entirely covered home by the end of the day.

We began the day measuring and cutting the two by fours to make each wall panel. Once they had been assembled, we carefully brought each panel over to the site to be added to the house. This took a long while, and involved a lot of careful measuring, cutting, hammering, and a ton of bent nails to be removed. Once the walls were complete it became clear how this would become a house!

After the initial framing, many of us began to add the plywood for the walls. We cut each piece then nailed it to the spot it was destined for. Here we encountered a few headaches and realized the importance of measuring twice and cutting once!

It wasn't until we put the roof panels on that we realized a small mix up in two pieces of lumber had put everything slightly out of alignment, enough to require a pause in our work to consider how best we could correct the issue. Thankfully with a bit of careful planning, consideration, and only a small bit of brute force, we were able to correct the issue and were back in business!

Watching the home come together felt even better as Cenaida, the mama whom the home is intended for, joined us in the work and we could see the joy and pride in her eyes. She is an incredibly strong woman, and has helped to carry many buckets of water, and even formed some blisters of her own by cutting lumber non-stop in the morning.

Next step is getting the last of the sheeting up, then on to prep for stucco, and finally doors and windows.

The team is all geared up and ready to go for a big push to finish off this home and pass off the keys in a couple of days!
