Project Mexico 2026 - Day 2

Project Mexico Day 2: Calgary! (Not Mexico)

After our turbulent day of being grounded yesterday, the project Mexico team learned that we have been booked on new flights to San Diego for tomorrow, leaving us with an unexpected day in Calgary. So, in true Friends Church fashion, it was only fitting that we use our time to bring water, this time to families within our own Calgary community. A quick post to social media highlighted many families who could use a helping hand with some tasks around the house that can feel absolutely crippling while navigating parenting, grief, and all of the curve balls that life throws at us. We were able to help provide support to three families through cleaning to get things feeling a bit less overwhelming, clearing out some space in a garage that has felt daunting, and repairing doors, bumpers, and walls.

As we worked to support these families in the little ways we could, I reflected on how easy it is to put our blinders on, to not notice the need in our own community, or to pretend it doesn't exist when that feels easier. At the same time, many of us avoid being vulnerable and asking for or accepting help, often due to embarrassment or worry that we'd be a burden. And yet community support is the life and breath that we all need. We all lift each other up by connecting with those around us, truly caring, and choosing to lean in even when it feels tough. We all have the power to change the world and make it a better place by turning toward each other with love and generosity.

Tune back in tomorrow to see if the team finally makes it to Mexico and what adventures await along the way!
