Regardless of where you and I sit on the topic of divine intervention in our world – we will inevitably rub shoulders with someone who sees it differently.  The question I’ve been asking myself is, “Can I respectfully engage in healthy discussion on this topic with those around me who hold opposing views?”  In my message, I challenged the one’s who do believe in divine intervention, to be aware and sensitive to those who don’t – especially those who have been disillusioned after painful disappointment.  But in hindsight, I think there should have been an equal challenge given to those of us who currently struggle with this area, toward those who don’t.

I’ve been asking myself some questions:  Could I celebrate with someone who believes that a recent event was the result of an answered prayer – without having to disqualify or offer other explanations?  Could I graciously accept a person’s offered prayers for things I’m experiencing – without redirecting them to what I would consider more important situations? From my perspective, as soon as I find myself unable to do these kinds of things, I think I’ve internally decided that I know the truth on the subject.  Which, let’s be honest, when it comes to the mysteries of the divine, anyone claiming to know what’s “true” is sadly disillusioned.

While we continue to search for explanations to life’s mysteries, may we respond to those around us who see and believe differently with incredible grace.
