Speaker: Jeff Jarvis

A few years ago I attended the funeral of a family friend that, emotionally, put me through the “wringer”. I sat in that packed room and the memories just flooded over me. It didn’t matter what memory either – good or bad – my heart just ached…I just missed him. After having both belly-laughed and sobbed I walked out of the funeral home that day, emotionally spent.
Despite the “wringer” – I knew that ceremony was a healthy thing. You know what I mean? There was something about that funeral ritual that began healing my aching soul. It’s easy to underestimate the power of ceremony and rituals. Especially when you look at some of the rituals that people in the Bible engaged in. So different from anything we do. But don’t be fooled…when you scrape below the surface and learn what those rituals could actually mean to you today, you might reconsider.
