I recently re-watched “The Truman Show”. A movie about a guy named Truman (Jim Carrey) who, from birth, was the main character of a reality show and didn’t know it. Every day millions tuned in to watch as Truman lived out his life in a very controlled world. But the life that was carefully curated for Truman by Christof (the show’s producer) didn’t fit him that well. More and more as Truman got older, he longed for a different life — something better suited to who he truly was and needed and he became determined to leave Seahaven (the fake town/movie set he had spent his entire life in).

Watching the movie again, I have a new appreciation for how rich the movie is with metaphors of the spiritual journey. Different characters that represent people and situations we each will face at some point in our pursuit of the meaningful life. The question is: what will we do when we encounter them?

I’m going to unpack some of the metaphors on Sunday and show you some game-changing takeaways.
