Speaker: Jeff Jarvis

“Jeff, you’ve changed!” This is what a person wrote to me in an email a number of years back. She was concerned — specifically that I changed my religious/spiritual beliefs on certain issues over the years. She was convinced that this had made me susceptible to “false teaching” and was a sign that I had settled for something that was truly “not of God”.

Question: Are the most legitimate spiritual journeys the ones that remain unchanged throughout life? Are the truly spiritual/enlightened ones, the ones who remain faithful to certain beliefs no matter what comes along that challenges or contradicts them?

Sadly, I’ve watched many abandon their spiritual journeys because they could no longer reconcile certain religious beliefs they held with new scientific discoveries or learning or conflicting life experiences.

Question…Could it be that spiritual beliefs need updates from time to time…much like the software on your laptop or apps on your phone? That if we’re not careful, certain beliefs we hold will make the spiritual journey seem almost impossible to continue.

We invite you to join us this Sunday as we explore not just the validity but the vitality of an evolving spirituality. Something that, surprisingly for many, has been a part of our spiritual tradition for thousands of years.

I encourage you to invite a friend who has struggled, or is struggling, with their spiritual beliefs to join us on Sunday. To donate to this podcast and support the making of more of these please visit www.friendschurch.ca/donate
