Speaker: Jeff Jarvis

It’s not lost on me that Christianity, as a religion, hasn’t had the greatest reputation nor track record with those who sit outside its walls. I’ll be the first to admit that many terrible things have been done in its name. Perhaps this is what Gandhi was referring to when he was quoted saying ‘I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.’

This is likely why, when I’m asked how I identify myself spiritually, I’m a bit leery of using the word “Christian”. It’s strange though – because I have zero hesitation in talking about the huge influence that the story of Jesus has had on my life.

So this Sunday I want to revisit some reasons why I think I resonate with and believe so deeply in the stories and teachings of Jesus in the Christian tradition. My goal isn’t to convert anyone — just to get you thinking deeply about the dominant individuals/teachings/stories that have shaped and continue to shape your personal spirituality. It’s an exercise that can serve as a powerful reminder of what we want our lives to be centred around but also to spot any contradicting behaviours.

Why don’t you invite someone who is open to a spiritual conversation and plan to join us at the gym this Sunday — either in person or online?
